From identity, to platforms, to campaigns, FreeAssociation has been involved in many notable digital initiatives with the renowned media network.
FA has worked on some fundamental brand questions with MTV.com, such as ‘What is MTV as a brand in the digital era?’ Working closely with MTV as an experimental design lab, our answer was to visually express the MTV mark in a vibrant and ever-changing manner that reflected the brand’s history. This called for a new logo and CSS theme to load in a randomized fashion with each page load. After a positive launch, the design approach was opened up as a global contest for aspiring visual artists.

MTV Networks Digital Fusion is a division of ad sales that works as an internal agency with unique access to Viacom content, sites, and technology and a mandate to deliver custom, integrated marketing solutions to advertisers. FA has worked closely with Fusion for several years, delivering digital campaigns for numerous brands, including Sprite, McDonald’s, AT&T, and Trojan.
In addition to our extensive work with Digital Fusion and the various site teams, we have collaborated with other departments within MTV Networks including Think, MTV U, and MTV Tr3s. Notable projects include Music My Guey, a UGC contest platform for MTV Tr3s, and the identity and site for Jay-Z’s Water For Life Tour – a collaboration with the UN that won us a Webby.
