FreeAssociation worked with agency Stellarhead to design and engineer iPad, iPhone, and Facebook apps for legendary Italian fashion house Max Mara. Each iOS application was designed to launch with a set of features that could evolve with the introduction of new products and promotions. The initial launch focused on the ‘S Max Mara Cube collection and featured the ‘Decode the Cube’ game, ‘The Cube Lookbook’ image gallery, and a store finder.

One of the challenges of the iOS project was to create a Cube-inspired game that incorporated images of the ‘S Max Mara Cube coat and reflected its versatility. The game had to accommodate an audience not traditionally comfortable with interactive gaming, while still presenting enough of a challenge to give users a real sense of accomplishment after beating a level. Working between the guidelines of ‘not so difficult that it frustrates’ and ‘not so easy that you feel cheated,’ we developed a game that combines a 3D cube puzzle with a memory game.

FA also updated Max Mara’s Facebook presence, creating a tab advertising the iOS apps, as well as a Lookbook application designed specifically for Max Mara and customized for the Facebook space.
