On December 9th, 2010 The Black Eyed Peas hijacked Myspace, filling the featured modules with their own picks for three days. The band will be the first in a series of artists to curate the site as part of “Hijacks,” a new program where talent takes control of Myspace for three days and reveal how they would program the site if they were in charge, premiering exclusive content and providing interactive easter eggs for the network of 120 million people.
As part of this kickoff hijack, FA wrote, shot, directed and post produced a live action/motion graphics mixed piece to introduce the BEP hijack to the user when they arrived at Myspace. Directed by FA partner David Landa, the video was shot with a behind-the-scenes feeling as the band imagines what they would do with Myspace if they had free reign. Piggybacking off of BEP’s current 8-bit theme as seen on their new album artwork and music videos, FA added a layer of 8-bit styled graphics that visualized BEP’s wild ideas.
FreeAssociation has been a continuing partner on Myspace’s rich media advertising, collaborating on engagements for Jackass 3D, Step-Up 3D, Fanta Cola’s Co-Star, Tron, Coca-Cola and others.
